The Udayamperoor police under the Kochi city police in Kerala have registered a case after a Pakistan flag was allegedly used in a pastoral prayer meeting at a hall at Kandanad on Sunday (June 8, 2025).

The police booked the pastor under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 196 (1)(a) (whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or through electronic communication or otherwise, promotes or attempts to promote, on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities) and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act Section 2 (insult to Indian national flag and constitution of India).

Though a case was registered, the police sources ruled out the need for further serious action. “The Pakistan flag was found along with the flags of some 20-odd other countries, which were used while praying for the respective countries. We have seized all the flags and will produce before the court,” said the police sources.

The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by a BJP activist who was alerted through social media about the use of the Pakistan flag.
