Lorde has always come off as introspective, but her latest reveal takes vulnerability to a new level.

In a fresh Rolling Stone interview, the Grammy-winning artist opened up about how MDMA and psilocybin therapy changed everything for her, from her paralyzing stage fright to her long struggle with body image.

For most of her life, she says nerves were a constant. But between 2022 and 2024, things started to shift. She began participating in supervised psychedelic therapy sessions, and for the first time in her career, she found herself touring without fear. “I was touring without stage fright for the first time,” she shared. And the change wasn’t subtle. She described a show where she performed “Supercut” and felt a sudden, deep connection with the crowd, like the entire room was sharing the same heartbeat. “It made me realise how much I love and kind of need that very deep, visceral response to feel my music,” she said.

This wasn’t just about feeling more confident onstage, though. Lorde also revealed how the experience transformed her relationship with her body. After dealing with an eating disorder and years of harsh self-criticism, the therapy gave her a new lens. She recalled a breakthrough moment: “These arms climbed the jungle gym. And they held an award on a TV show.” It was the first time she truly recognized the strength and history in her own body. The complexity didn’t scare her anymore, it gave her peace.

She reflected on the night before she dropped Solar Power back in 2021, and it’s heartbreaking in hindsight. “I felt so hungry and so weak,” she admitted. “I was on TV that morning, and I didn’t eat because I wanted my tummy to be small in the dress. It was just this sucking of a life force or something.” Even months later, while performing on the North American leg of her tour, she was still battling with the mirror. She sent a newsletter to fans saying that while the shows helped her feel grounded, she couldn’t stop scrutinizing herself. “I’m also looking at the pictures afterward and feeling deep loathing at the sight of my beautiful, tiny tummy,” she wrote. “Thinking it was so unforgivable what I had allowed it to become.”

But that chapter seems to be behind her now. These days, Lorde sounds like someone who’s finally made peace with herself, and it’s showing up in her music. She said once she let go of the constant calorie counting, her creative energy came rushing back. “I could see that if I cut that cord, maybe I would get something back that I needed to do my work,” she said. “And it was totally true. Got it all back, and way more.”

Her story is a real glimpse behind the curtain. It’s not just about fame or music, it’s about what happens when you get quiet, look inward, and find a different way to heal. From the weight of perfection to real freedom, Lorde’s journey is raw, brave, and pretty damn inspiring.
