She easily dispatched Daria Saville in the first round in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Boulter is the British number one and is hoping to make it further than she ever has before in a Grand Slam.

The 28-year-old has never been beyond the third round, but she’ll have to play well to achieve that this year.

Boulter made it into the second round after a scare against qualifier Carole Monnet, losing the first set in a tiebreaker before going onto claim the next two 6-1, 6-1.

Keys vs Boulter: What has been said?

Monday’s win was Boulter’s first during the main section of the French Open, and she was happy to fight back from a set down.

She said: “I’m really pleased with myself.

“I sometimes find it really difficult on this surface and I’ve kind of persevered and tried my hardest to bring some good tennis.

“Obviously, that does mean a fair bit to me.

“But I think because I played so well last week and I started building a lot of momentum, ultimately I start putting more pressure on myself.

“I think that’s where a bit of experience showed today, because I dug in in the biggest moments, especially in the start of both sets.

“That gave me a lot of confidence just to kind of keep going for my shots. It allowed me to close the door.”
