While torrential rainfalls are hard on everyone in Bengaluru, the brunt of it is heavily borne by those who reside in slums, which are mostly situated in low-lying areas. With makeshift tarpaulin tents or poorly built slum quarters, the residents here always struggle to save their groceries or important documents. The rains on Sunday and Monday were no exception to this.
“The water came in so fast, we had no time to react. Everything we had was gone overnight,” said Mahesh, a daily wage worker who resides at a slum near Kengeri, while speaking about the havoc rain caused between Sunday and Monday. Read more
