The Mangalapuram police in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly murdering his neighbour, A. Thaha, 67, following his refusal to marry his daughter to the accused.
Rashid of Thonnakkal, purportedly barged into Thaha’s house on Wednesday and stabbed him. Thaha succumbed to his injuries early Thursday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
According to the police, Rashid, armed with a knife, entered the house around 2 p.m., and pushed aside Thaha’s wife, Noor Jahan, before stabbing Thaha in the stomach. Though Thaha attempted to flee to the first floor of the house, Rashid pursued him and inflicted further injuries.
Local residents apprehended Rashid as he tried to escape and handed him over to the police. The police suspect the attack was in retaliation for the marriage refusal.
They added that Rashid assaulted Thaha in the past.
