The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed the officers of various departments to focus on online trading and cargo services to check smuggling of narcotic drugs, cannabis and other substances.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired an apex meeting in the hybrid mode with the Chief Secretaries (CSs), the Director Generals of Police (DGPs), the heads of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), and the police on Thursday.

The meeting discussed the strategies to check smuggling of drugs, coordination among various departments, identifying children addicted to drugs and ganja, enlightening students and youth on the ill-effects of drugs, said officers who participated in the meeting.

The Union Home Secretary directed the officers of Andhra Pradesh to focus on identifying the national and international drug peddlers and their modus operandi, keep a vigil on online marketing, and the demand for various types of drugs.

Mr. Govind Mohan asked the Drug Control Administration (DCA) to keep a tab on NRX drugs (which cannot be sold without prescription) in the drug stores.

Officers of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) in the State were asked to take steps to identify the vulnerable areas and the children addicted to drugs.
