All India Congress Committee (AICC) president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday (May 20, 2025)launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, questioning its effectiveness and transparency in the face of recent Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in retaliation to it.

In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Mr. Kharge said that despite the Prime Minister going on over 150 foreign visits to 72 countries in the last 11 years, including 10 trips to the United States, India received no international backing in its efforts to expose Pakistan’s support for terrorism.

“In the last 11 years, Prime Minister Modi has made 151 foreign trips and visited 72 countries. Out of these, he has visited the US 10 times. Yet, our country stands alone under the Modi government’s foreign policy. Is it the Prime Minister’s job to visit foreign countries and only pose for photos?” Mr. Kharge wrote.

Questions India’s diplomacy

Citing the recent $1.4 billion bailout package extended to Pakistan by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Kharge questioned the Modi government’s diplomatic credibility, arguing that India stood isolated even as Pakistan benefited from global financial institutions.

“A ceasefire was suddenly declared while our brave armed forces were conducting operations against terrorists. The US President has insulted our country by saying, ‘I brokered’ the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and repeated this, not less than 7 times. The entire country was united in the tough action against terrorists, but Modiji is trying to cover up the issue by not providing clarity to the people of the country regarding US President Trump’s statements, so far,” he said.
