Despite the red alert, Kozhikode on Tuesday had a respite from incessant rain that lashed the district for four days. Though it rained heavily during the forenoon, the rest of the day was rather sunny.

However, the district continues to be under red alert. The District Collectors of Kozhikode and Wayanad have declared holiday for all educational institutions, including anganwadis and tuition centres, on Wednesday as well.

Meanwhile, the number of rehabilitation camps in the district has been raised to four. As many as 151 people from 44 families have been accommodated in these camps. Two of the camps are in Kozhikode taluk, while one each is in Koyilandy and Vadakara Taluks.

The Pangottoor Bhagavathi Temple near Villiappally in Vadakara was completely damaged after a huge tree fell on Tuesday afternoon. The compound wall near the temple, constructed to protect the sacred groves, was also damaged. Uprooted trees caused traffic blocks for hours in various parts of the district.

Water level has risen in Iruvazhinji and Poonoor rivers. Korapuzha is under Orange alert. People on the banks of these rivers have been asked to stay alert and move to safer places when asked.

In Wayanad

As many as 15 rehabilitation camps have been opened in Wayanad district where 592 people from 165 families are accommodated. There are six camps in Vythiri taluk, seven in Sulthan Bathery, and two in Mananthavady taluk. People from Kavumandam, Vengappalli, Padinjarathara, Kottathara, Muttil, Panamaram, Mananthavady, Cheeral, Poothadi, Kottappadi, Nenmeni, and Noolpuzha are among those who moved into the camps.

The rising water level in the river flowing through Chooralmala has caused panic among local people, as the river caused landslides in July last year.
