The Chatham native carries a sensational skillset and has been compared in the early stages of his career to Mike Tyson.

He recently extended his unblemished professional record to 12-0 with a devastating KO victory over Mike Balogun at the weekend.

And now the boxing fraternity have called for Itauma to face bigger and better names, with heavy links to a showdown with Martin Bakole.

But talkSPORT’s Spencer Oliver believes he has a better idea, and wants to see Itauma challenge Ruiz Jr in a huge step-up.

He said on the latest episode of talkBOXING: “I would really like to see him in with Andy Ruiz Jr.

“We know he’s tough, durable, he can whack for sure and I’d love to see that happen.

“Surely Moses will get some rounds from him, that is a yard stick for him to see exactly where he is at.

“If he goes out there and does a job on Andy Ruiz Jr and takes him out, things are being answered.

“Ruiz is looking for a gateway back in and Itauma is ranked at No.1 by the WBO now.”

Former fighter Paul Smith added: “That would be an amazing fight.

“But I think that it is a tough one for any heavyweight right now.”

Ruiz Jr became unified world champion in 2019 in one of boxing’s biggest every upsets as he flattened Anthony Joshua.

But the Mexican was beaten in the rematch and his career has stuttered ever since.

He has fought just three times since that 2019 sequel, and controversially drew with Jarrell Miller in August last year.

Despite his form having declined, Ruiz Jr if in shape can provide a stern test to the leading fighters in the division.

Itauma for now is unlikely to face the Mexican next, given Ruiz Jr is not currently in training camp.

And the young prodigy’s next bout is being targeted to take place on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois’ rematch on July 19.

His promoter Frank Warren has regularly insisted there is no rush to his career, emphasising the importance of matching him well.

Itauma’s skills are boundless and there is huge excitement to see him progress through the ranks.
