A special textbook on financial literacy is among those published as per the revised curriculum in the State’s public sector schools.

The book is titled Financial literacy. Portions related to the subject have been included in textbooks from Class V onwards. Special textbooks have been published for Classes IX and X.

Some of the eight units in Class IX (part II) textbook are ‘Savings and investment possibilities,’ ‘Modern banking services,’ ‘Bank documents and forms,’ ‘Life insurance: security and savings,’ ‘Postal department: financial services,’ and ‘Share market and mutual funds.’

The financial literacy units are intended to inculcate financial discipline among students from a young age.

Steps will also be taken to strengthen the Sanchayika scheme in schools so that students develop the savings habit and improve financial awareness, a statement quoting Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty said.
