The Green Bay Packers should be better than this.
One of the NFL’s oldest franchises has been playing games since 1921 and is directly associated with the Super Bowl’s Lombardi trophy.

Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles won the latest version of that shining symbol of football domination.
Three months later, the Packers look they’re afraid to play the old-fashioned way.
And they’re obviously afraid of the unstoppable monster that is the Eagles’ rugby-style Tush Push.
“The Packers have submitted updated language for their Tush Push proposal, one that will be voted on at the league meeting on Wednesday,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted.
Listed in that ‘language’ was unintentional football comedy.
“Penalty: For assisting the runner, interlocking interference, or illegal use of hands, arms, or body by the offense – loss of 10 yards.
“Effect: Prohibits an offensive player from pushing, pulling, lifting, or assisting the runner except by individually blocking opponents for him.
“Reason: Player safety. Pace of play.”
Of course, the real reason was left out of all the legalese.
The Packers — and about half of the league’s 32 teams — just watched the Eagles thrash Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Andy Reid and the once-unstoppable Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

The Tush Push symbolized the Eagles’ 18-3 overall record last season.
And the Tush Push — which isn’t even the play’s real name — has become synonymous with the best team in the league in 2025.
“The fact that it’s a successful play for the Eagles and people want to take that away, I think is a little unfair,” Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni said.
The best way to get rid of a play that can’t be stopped 99 percent of the time?
Change the rules — and ban it.
“It’s tough to punish a team for being really good at something,” Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said.
But that’s exactly what the Pack and many others are trying to do, and Green Bay is willing to publicly put its name on it.

There’s no hard evidence that shows the Tush Push is inherently dangerous.
There’s less evidence to show that banning the Tush Push will improve ‘pace of play.’
Normally, that’s a problem reserved for commissioner Rob Manfred and Major League Baseball.
The Packers look desperate, frightened and out of touch.
They’re also taking one for the team (and potentially the league) by coming up with a bunch of silly reasons that might convince 24 of the NFL’s 32 franchises to ban what’s basically become a guaranteed first down/touchdown for the reigning Super Bowl champs.
The Washington Commanders turned themselves into a clown show in the 2024 NFC Championship, jumping offsides over and over in a desperate attempt to stop the push before it started.

Sirianni’s crew racked up 55 points and 459 total yards in that blowout, including 229 on the ground.
“Credit to the Eagles, man, they played better than us from start to finish,” said Mahomes in the Super Bowl, on a night when Philly led 34-0 and 40-6 in a lopsided Superdome.
During an era of dual-threat quarterbacks and wide-open spread offenses, the Eagles have ‘invented’ an old-school play that has more in common with 1921 than 2025.
More than 100 years after Green Bay played its first game, the Packers are afraid of playing real football.
