Mingus Reedus, the 25-year-old son of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and supermodel Helena Christensen, is facing additional legal trouble after being charged with multiple offenses in connection to an alleged assault in New York City.
Reedus was arrested on Saturday, August 23, at approximately 8:40 a.m., according to the New York City Police Department. Authorities reported that a 33-year-old woman sustained minor injuries to her neck and leg following the incident near 16th Street and 8th Avenue. The woman was treated at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.
Initially, Mingus was charged with one count of assault and one count of criminal obstruction of breathing. However, public court records reveal that prosecutors later added three more counts: assault – recklessly causing physical injury, aggravated harassment, and harassment. In total, he now faces five charges.
Mingus appeared in court on the same day of his arrest and pleaded not guilty to all counts. His next court hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 26.
His attorney, Priya Chaudhry, released a statement defending her client, asserting that the charges do not reflect evidence of guilt. “Despite what the prosecutor said in court – which is not evidence – they chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less. This speaks volumes, and much louder than the unsupported prosecutor’s in-court comments,” she said in an email to People.
Chaudhry further emphasized that the presiding judge released Mingus without bail or supervision, which she described as a significant legal decision. “Mingus is presumed innocent and has pled not guilty,” she added.
This is not the first time Mingus has faced legal issues. In September 2021, he was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman during the San Gennaro festival in New York City. According to police reports at the time, the woman sustained injuries beneath her left eye after claiming Mingus punched her following a heated verbal confrontation.
Mingus later told the New York Daily News that he had acted in self-defense, claiming the woman and her friends were harassing him and his group. In March 2022, he accepted a plea deal for the lesser charge of disorderly conduct.
With the current case under investigation, Reedus is once again under public scrutiny. For now, he remains free until his next court date as legal proceedings move forward.
