Mingus Reedus, the son of actor Norman Reedus and supermodel Helena Christensen, has been arrested in New York City following an alleged assault, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed.
The 25-year-old was taken into custody on August 23 and now faces charges of criminal obstruction of breathing and assault.
Authorities reported that officers responding to the scene near 16th Street and 8th Avenue found a 33-year-old woman with minor injuries to her neck and leg. Emergency Medical Services transported the woman to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where she was treated and reported to be in stable condition. Police confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
Representatives for Mingus Reedus have not yet commented on the incident, according to multiple outlets including People and E! News.
This is not the first time Reedus has faced legal issues in New York. Nearly four years ago, in September 2021, he was arrested following an altercation during the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy. At the time, police responded to a 911 call regarding an assault near Mulberry Street and Baxter Street.
According to law enforcement, a 24-year-old woman claimed she was struck in the face during the confrontation, sustaining an injury below her left eye. She was transported to New York’s Downtown Hospital. Reedus, then 21, was arrested at the scene and initially charged with misdemeanor assault. The following year, in March 2022, he accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to disorderly conduct – a lesser charge.
In a statement to the New York Daily News after the 2021 incident, Reedus defended his actions. He claimed that the altercation began when the woman and her friends followed him and his group, throwing food and yelling threats. Reedus alleged he was acting in self-defense when he extended his arm to protect his girlfriend and her friend, unintentionally hitting the woman.
“It was instinct,” he said at the time. “I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group. Ten seconds later the police got involved.” He added that his “intention for that day was to mind my own business and play fair games.”
Now, with his latest arrest, Reedus once again finds himself under scrutiny. The charge of criminal obstruction of breathing, commonly associated with choking or restricting airflow, is a serious offense under New York law. Coupled with the assault charge, the case could carry significant legal consequences if prosecutors pursue it in court.
Norman Reedus, widely recognized for his role as Daryl Dixon on AMC’s The Walking Dead, and Helena Christensen, a former Victoria’s Secret Angel and fashion model, have not issued public statements regarding their son’s arrest.
As the investigation unfolds, it remains unclear how the case will progress or whether Reedus will seek another plea deal, as he did previously. What is certain is that the incident has once again placed the son of two high-profile celebrities in the spotlight for reasons far removed from modeling campaigns or Hollywood premieres.
