North West, Kim Kardashian’s oldest daughter, is creating just as much fashion buzz as her celebrity mom, although not everyone is clapping about her newest style.
The 12-year-old recently accompanied Kim in Rome, and her statement punk-chic outfit has set off a fiery parenting debate among fans of the Kardashians.
The mother-daughter pair was seen at Pierluigi, an upscale eatery, in photos obtained by Page Six. Although Kim played it fairly low-key, North outdressed everyone wearing a vibrant outfit. She had her hair in waist-length pigtails and featured a long ombre blue wig, towering platform boots, a layered mini-skirt, and a black bustier. She completed it with a leather heart-shaped bag, which resembled a punk-meets-pop look that grabbed attention the moment she appeared.
The outfit drew controversial responses online, especially on X (formerly Twitter), as most users expressed concern regarding how much the look was truly for a child of the same age. One of the fans said, “Not to be that person but I think this is insane for a 12 yr old. The corset, the wig, the heels, like can she be a kid??? Another said, “A black top underneath the corset would have been cute and appropriate for a child.”
While others maintained that North is merely mimicking her mom’s footsteps as an up-and-coming fashion icon, others feared the look tipped too heavily toward adult fashion. It’s not the first Kardashian fashion decision to get tongues wagging, but this time the focus is squarely on the next generation.
And, of course, the family’s enthusiasts know that Kim has never been afraid to push the envelope when it comes to fashion. From corsets that made headlines to provocative red carpet statements, she’s made controversy a part of her sartorial identity. Now, it appears North is adopting the same flair for drama, though at age 12, the topic is less about haute couture and more about parenting decisions.
Kim has ex-husband Kanye West to share North and three siblings, Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (6), with. With Kanye’s second marriage to Bianca Censori, co-parenting has been under the spotlight, but Kim and North’s recent Rome excursion only added to renewed controversy over how much influence the Kardashians’ stylistic extremism holds over their kids.
Whether they view it as self-expression or too grown-up for her age, one thing is certain: North West is already showing that she has the same talent as her mother to make headlines with a single ensemble.
