A Class X student was killed while eight others were injured after a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus hit a two-wheeler and an autorickshaw on Chittoor – Cuddalore Highway at Periya Ayyampalayam village near Polur town in Tiruvannamalai on Sunday.

Police said the deceased person was identified as V. Raman (15), a native of Vellore. Initial inquiry revealed that bus driver S. Pandian (52) was driving the government bus from Vellore to Tiruvannamalai on the route when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the two-wheeler and an autorickshaw, which was coming in the opposite direction.

In the impact, the school student, who was riding the two-wheeler, was killed on the spot whereas autorickshaw driver Abdul Rahman (25), a resident of Katpadi, and seven bus commuters were injured in the accident. This happened around 11.30 a.m.

Immediately, passersby and other motorists rescued commuters and other injured persons. They also alerted Kannamangalam police and ambulances. Injured persons were admitted at Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore where doctors said the condition is stable. A case was registered. A probe is underway.
