Owen Wilson is officially back on the green, Apple TV+ renewed his golf comedy hit Stick for Season 2.
Since its June 4 premiere, Stick has been ruling the Apple TV+ Top 10 lists, and now Pryce Cahill’s story, played by Wilson, is getting another round. The series, a heartwarming underdog story with very real Ted Lasso-esque sensibilities, has resonated with audiences for its heart, humor, and unexpectedly emotional exploration of found family and second chances.
Throughout Season 1, we witnessed Wilson’s Pryce, a former golfing sensation, reach rock bottom following a career gone off the rails and a failed marriage. He’s now stuck peddling golfing equipment in Indiana, until he wagers it all on a raw 17-year-old phenom named Santi, portrayed by Peter Dager. When Pryce serves as mentor and surrogate father to the troubled youth, their relationship forms the show’s emotional center. By the Season 1 finale, “Déjà Vu All Over Again,” viewers were already clamoring for more, particularly after the last shot teased a big shake-up between Pryce and Santi.
Good news: the entire main cast is back for Season 2. Wilson returns as Pryce, with Dager reprising his role as Santi, Marc Maron as Pryce’s longtime friend Mitts, Mariana Treviño as Santi’s fierce and protective mom Elena, and Lilli Kay as Zero, the bartender-turned-caddy who’s become an unlikely anchor for the gang. Judy Greer and Timothy Olyphant also will be back, with special guest appearances from golf legends such as Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Wyndham Clark.
Show creator and showrunner Jason Kerrler is as excited as fans. “I’m inspired and humbled by the audience reaction to Stick, and I’m thrilled to be making a second season with this magical cast,” he said, joking that the renewal also gives him an excuse to play even more golf. The series is developed by Apple Studios with the cream of the crop creative team featuring Wilson himself, Ben Silverman, Guymon Casady, Howard T. Owens, and directors such as Valerie Faris, Jonathan Dayton, MJ Delaney, and John Hamburg.
Matt Cherniss, programming chief at Apple TV+, put it best himself: “With the first season of Stick, audiences instantly fell in love with the charming, funny, and heartfelt world that Jason, Owen, and their all-star team created.” And based on appearances, there’s plenty more to love in Season 2.
With Wilson’s signature charm and some ridiculously addictive storytelling, Stick is showing that golf, mentorship, and redemption are a killer combination. And for all who are wondering where Pryce and Santi are headed next, Season 2 could just be the hole-in-one they’ve been dreaming of.
