The government on Thursday issued an order for the constitution of a Project Implementation Unit (PIU) for monitoring and handholding the establishment of the greenfield refinery and petrochemical complex at Ramayapatnam by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). 

The Commissioner and Director of Industries will be its Chairperson and the Joint Director of Industries (Industrial Parks) the Member Convener. The PIU will have the AP Maritime Board CEO, the Nellore District Collector, the AP-Transco Director (Grid), the AP-Transco Superintending Engineer (Nellore district), the APCPDCL CMD, the Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department, representatives from BPCL, the Municipal Administration & Urban Development and Stamps & Registration Departments and the AP Pollution Control Board, forest officers of Nellore and Prakasam districts, the APIIC Zonal Manager (Special Projects) – Tirupati and Nellore District Industries Centre General Manager as the members. 

Representatives from the Roads & Buildings, Water Resources and Energy Departments will also be members of the PIU for the sake of provision of critical external infrastructure such as approach roads, industrial water allocation and power. 

The PIU is mandated to hold meetings every month to review the progress of the project. Further, Pravin Kumar, Secretary to the Government, Industries & Commerce (Mines & Geology), has been appointed as the nodal officer for the two marquee projects in Nellore district, namely the BPCL and Indosol projects.
