Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are getting a hands-on lesson in work, responsibility, and money management – all thanks to a simple garden and a small farmer’s market stand set up by their parents in Montecito, California.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, recently opened up about how she and Prince Harry are teaching their kids important life values through everyday activities like gardening and selling produce.

Speaking on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, Meghan shared that she and Harry want their six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter to understand the real value of things. That’s why the family grows their own vegetables and then gives the kids a chance to sell the harvest in their local community.

“We sometimes do a little farmer’s market stand,” Meghan said. “We grow a lot of veggies and part of what I want them to learn is… gardening is really so great for children because it teaches them patience and to value and appreciate their food.”

According to Meghan, the process starts with seeds – watching them grow, waiting for the harvest, and then deciding what to do with the results. The kids are not only learning how to grow food but also how to price it, sell it, and think about what to do with the money they earn.

“Do you want to sell your harvest? Do you want to share it with the community? What do you want to do with those funds once you have them?” Meghan explained. “They’re learning counting and numbers, and that there’s a cost and a price for things.”

She emphasized that these lessons are especially important because of the family’s privileged lifestyle. “You need to know that, just like manners, and taking care of the things around you, there is a value on things,” she said.

Meghan also touched on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, which she’s currently pausing. Although fans are eager for a second season, she wants to focus on building her lifestyle brand As Ever first.

“What an amazing opportunity to talk to female founders,” she said. “But I need to focus on my business right now. It doesn’t mean the podcast won’t come back – just not yet.”

The Duchess wants to revisit the podcast at a later stage in her entrepreneurial journey, possibly after a full business cycle when she has more insights and results to share.

In the meantime, she and Harry are clearly focused on raising grounded kids with strong values. And with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet running their own little farmer’s market, it seems they’re off to a pretty solid start.
