Kozhikode has been put under red alert after rain wreaked havoc across the district on Sunday and Monday. A fishing boat from Koyilandy that was returning to the shore capsized near Vellayil harbour on Tuesday resulting in the death of Hamsakkoya, 65, from Nadakkavu . Two persons injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, another fibre fishing boat capsized near Kothi bridge, though no casualties have been reported.

The rain started on Sunday afternoon in a mild way and escalated by evening. Heavy rain was experienced throughout the district on Monday, especially in the upland regions. Damage to property has been reported from Mukkam and Thamarassery.
Two houses were damaged in lightning at Koyambram Palam near Chekyad. The wiring of the houses burnt off and cracks have formed on the walls.
A tall compound wall collapsed over the neighbouring house at K.P. Menon Road in Kottooli. The compound wall of a mini stadium collapsed in Valayam.

Waterlogging was experienced even on major roads, especially in the city. Waterlogging at Stadium Junction and Mavoor Road in the heart of the city has made commuting difficult.
Heavy rain in the forest near Kodenchery has resulted in flash floods and a rise in the water level in river Iruvazhinji. Tourists have been prohibited from entering rivers at locations such as Arippara and Pathankayam, known for the recurring drowning accidents there.
