Rebel Wilson went full beast mode for her latest action-comedy film, Bride Hard.
The 45-year-old actress pushed herself harder than ever, revealing she went through a tough five-week training camp to get in shape for the role. Known for her comedic chops in Bridesmaids and the Pitch Perfect franchise, Rebel took things to another level this time, this wasn’t just about making people laugh. It was about being ready for intense physical action.
Speaking to People, Rebel explained how she fully committed to the transformation. “I often put my body on the line for physical comedy,” she said. “But this was different. I trained for a full five weeks and did conditioning for it, and then I had to be really kind of in beast mode. But I really enjoyed it, getting paid to almost be fit, which is really good.”
The training paid off. Rebel said she felt strong during the shoot and embraced the challenge with open arms. One of the standout moments? Using curling irons like nunchucks, a move inspired by none other than martial arts legend Jackie Chan.
“When I lived in South Africa, basically to pass the time I would watch Jackie Chan videos,” she shared. “His comic timing was amazing, and I loved all his movies. Even without subtitles, I was hooked on his action-comedy scenes. That’s actually why I picked up nunchucks in the first place, to try to be a bit like Jackie Chan.”
But the filming experience wasn’t all fun and games. On her final night of shooting, Rebel was injured in what she called a “freak accident.” While filming a fight scene, a prop gun accidentally hit her in the face, splitting her nose open.
She told Access Hollywood: “It was my last night of shooting. A gun accidentally got whacked across my face. I was surrounded by a pool of blood. I was freaking out.”
An ambulance was called immediately, and a plastic surgeon was brought in to stitch her up. “If they didn’t, I would’ve been permanently disfigured,” Rebel said. Luckily, the surgery went well, and the injury left no visible scars. “You can’t tell now,” she added.
Despite the scare, Rebel is proud of her work on Bride Hard and how far she pushed herself for the role. From channeling Jackie Chan to surviving a bloody accident, she’s proven she’s not just funny, she’s fearless.
Whether you’re a fan of action, comedy, or both, Bride Hard is shaping up to be a wild ride. And thanks to Rebel’s dedication, the film’s got more than just laughs, it’s got serious heart and hustle.
