Sanitary workers of Vellore Corporation were conducting fogging in school campuses as part of civic body’s preparedness for reopening of schools from June 2. 

TThe district administrations in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet and Tirupattur are all set to reopen schools on Monday with refurbished classrooms.

Prior to theschool reopening, a week-long exercise of refurbishing the entire premises  of government schools were in full swing with residents and students volunteering to pitch in to give a fresh look to their neighbouring schools.

“Overgrown trees in the premises were also pruned to prevent accidental fall due to overnight rains. Adequate stocks for noon meals were also kept ready to ensure timely food for students,” said S. Vignesh, a teacher.

Many schools were given a facelift by removal of bushes, erection of steel fences, replacment of electrical lines and water pipelines “Schools in remote villages and hilly areas are given special attention in terms of basic facilities for students and staff. Books will also be distributed from reopening day,” said Swami Muthazhagan, Tiruvannamalai Chief Educational Officer (CEO).

Helpline numbers (04175 – 250814; 04175-253845) have been set up at the Tiruvannamalai Collectorate for the public to report any negligence in following safety measures by the school authorities. Special buses are also being arranged for safe transport of students to schools.

 As part of sanitisation, civic workers conducted regular fogging of the campuses including classrooms and libraries in Vellore. Education officials said that the School Education department has requested Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to operate additional buses especially in school zones for safe and easy commute of students during school hours.
