A total of 289 men, caught ‘harassing’ women in public places between January and April this year, were made to attend a counselling session organised by the SHE Teams of the Women’s Safety Wing in partnership with NGO Manojagruthi.

The session held on Friday saw the participation of 304 individuals in all, including 271 adult offenders, 18 minors, and 15 parents or guardians.

A team of psychiatrists Geetha Challa, Kairi Thrinath Goud, Swathina Shasi, S. Srilatha and Syed Abeeda Begum, counselled them with focus on behavioural reforms, legal awareness, and respectful conduct in public places.

DCP Women’s Safety Wing Lavanya NJP addressed the gathering and highlighted the behavioural consequences of substance abuse. She warned of influence by poor company and emphasised the long-term value of self-restraint and patience, explaining the concept of delayed gratification through a short story.

Some of the participants expressed remorse and spoke about the negative impact their actions had on their families and relationships. Many said that the session gave them a chance to reflect and rethink, and thanked SHE Teams.

To report any incident of harassment or eve-teasing, contact SHE Teams at Dial 100 or WhatsApp at 9490616555.
