British actor Tom Holland was rushed to hospital following a head injury on the set of his new film Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The incident occurred when there was a stunt mishap at Leavesden Studios in Watford, Hertfordshire, where the Marvel star suffered a concussion and production had to be halted.

The accident allegedly occurred when Holland, aged 29, slipped and smashed his head during a scene. He was attended to on the set immediately before being rushed to hospital for treatment. An East of England Ambulance Service representative confirmed, “We were called at 10.30am on Friday to attend to a patient who had suffered an injury at Leavesden Studios. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and the patient was taken to hospital for further treatment.”

Adding to the anxiety, a stunt double believed to be a woman was also hurt on set and rushed to hospital in an ambulance. With two of the main performers out of commission, production of the £150 million blockbuster has come to a standstill.

The severity of the accident might prompt the Health and Safety Executive to open a formal investigation into on-set injuries of this kind, which the body reviews routinely. As the production is large-scale with a high-profile cast featuring Zendaya, such delays might affect the movie’s July release.

Tom’s dad, comedian Dominic Holland, announced the news when appearing at a charity dinner in Mayfair. He informed guests that his son would be out of filming “for a while” as he recuperates. Tom himself was at the event with his fiancée and co-star Zendaya, 28. The couple took photos, but Tom apparently cut his evening short after starting to feel sick.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth solo movie of Holland in the Marvel franchise, with such massive expectations considering the international success of his last adventure as Peter Parker. The people are now eagerly waiting for updates on his recovery and if the release date of the movie will be kept on track.

With filming stopped, everyone’s waiting to see Holland’s health and how the studio reacts. Although no official word from Marvel has come out yet, sources indicate that the break may add weeks to delays in filming.

As Holland recovers, speculation is intensifying regarding how this setback might impact both the star’s short-term future and the release of the film. For the time being, the priority continues to be making sure the actor has a full recovery from his concussion before heading back to set.
