Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorm lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Wednesday (May 21, 2025) afternoon, plunging the city into gloomy weather. Waterlogging was reported in multiple areas and the flow of traffic was disrupted. Commuters who were caught off guard due to the rain took shelter at shops by the side of road.

Neighbourhoods including Amberpet, Dilsukhnagar, Lalapet, Moosarambagh and parts of Secunderabad reported moderate to heavy showers, with overcast prevailing through the afternoon. There was no sign of sunshine.

According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Moosarambagh recorded the highest rainfall in the city until 1 p.m., with 6 mm, followed by Malakpet with 5.5 mm, Santosh Nagar with 3 mm, Hayatnagar at 2.8 mm, Amberpet at 2.5 mm and Secunderabad at 2 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a forecast cautioning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over isolated parts of Telangana on Wednesday (May 21, 2025). Specifically, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., rain and thunderstorms of varying intensity were predicted in 17 districts, including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri.
