Superman will again fly into action, as DC Studios officially announced its release date for its sequel in the reboiled superhero series.
Director and co-chief at DC James Gunn indicated that the sequel to this summer blockbuster Superman would be titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow and will take flight in theaters on July 9, 2027.

It was confirmed straight from Gunn himself when he announced it on social media in a photo captured from the comics of Superman standing with Lex Luthor in his legendary green and purple Warsuit. The image tease essentially promises that the feud between Superman and Luthor, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult, will be front and center in the storyline of the sequel. In DC continuity, the Warsuit’s high-tech capabilities enable Luthor to put up a fight against the Man of Steel.
The storyline is to kick-start after the happenings of Gunn’s first Superman film, wherein Luthor’s cloning scheme went bust and was unable to bring down the hero. Here, it looks like he’s going to tangle with his arch-rival on multiple fronts. Fans are already buzzing with what Hoult does with the legendary villain and how his refined battle with David Corenswet’s Superman will look on the big screen.
The first film of Gunn’s re-launched Superman series was a box office success for Warner Bros., raking in more than $611 million at the worldwide box office and becoming the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year. The success at the box office reaffirmed confidence in Gunn’s concept, with Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav making it official last August that Gunn would return to write and direct the sequel.
Man of Tomorrow will open in theaters as part of DC’s recently accelerated release calendar, following Supergirl in 2026, starring Milly Alcock as the Kryptonian hero, and Clayface, a horror-tinged project with Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie. Of special interest is Superman’s forthcoming release coming months ahead of Matt Reeves’ eagerly awaited The Batman Part II, scheduled for October 2027.
With a combination of continuity, new storytelling, and Gunn’s trademark sense of humor and heart, the next Superman: Man of Tomorrow appears to be poised to reshape the DC cinematic universe once more. Superman and Lex Luthor fans will have to wait until 2027 to find out how things go from here, but for now, clearly the groundwork is being laid for an action-packed showdown between the two that may set the tone for DC’s on-screen future.
