Taylor Swift And Beyoncé Go Head-To-Head At The 2025 MTV VMAs
The MTV Video Music Awards return tonight with a star-packed lineup, headline tributes, and one of the biggest rivalries in music history: Taylor Swift versus Beyoncé. Both superstars are tied with 30 career VMAs, and the 2025 ceremony could finally break the deadlock.
Swift, who recently announced her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, and Beyoncé, fresh off her genre-bending “Cowboy Carter” release, are only nominated in the Artist of the Year category. Whoever wins will officially claim the record for most VMAs ever earned by a single artist.
Adding another twist, Lady Gaga tops this year’s nominations with 12, ending Swift’s two-year run at the top of the list. Still, the spotlight is expected to shine on Swift and Beyoncé as they battle for the history-making milestone.
Will Taylor Swift Make An Announcement?
It remains unclear if either superstar will attend. If Swift shows up, the stage could double as a launchpad for her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, set for release on October 3. Fans also speculate she may use the platform to mention Kelce, given the couple’s high-profile engagement last month.
Big Honors And Tributes
The night will also honor legends. The late Ozzy Osbourne will be celebrated with a powerhouse tribute featuring Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, YUNGBLUD, and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt performing some of Osbourne’s most iconic hits.
Mariah Carey is set to receive the Video Vanguard Award, joining past honorees like Beyoncé, Madonna, Shakira, and Katy Perry. Hip-hop pioneer Busta Rhymes will be given the inaugural Rock the Bells Visionary Award, while Ricky Martin will make history as the first recipient of the Latin Icon Award. Both will perform during the broadcast.
Performances And Broadcast
This year’s lineup promises a wide range of genres, with confirmed performances from Doja Cat, Post Malone, Conan Gray, Tate McRae, J Balvin, Jelly Roll, Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, and sombr.
The 2025 MTV VMAs will be hosted by LL Cool J and, for the first time, broadcast on CBS. It will also simulcast on MTV and stream live on Paramount+ in the United States, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern from UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.
With legends being honored, fresh talent taking the stage, and a historic showdown between two of music’s most powerful icons, this year’s VMAs are shaping up to be one for the books.
