The Sarathi dashboard, an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, has integrated the Telangana government’s North Zone Road Transport Authority (RTA) with its centralised platform. The remaining zones in Hyderabad are expected to go live by the end of this month.
The Sarathi portal facilitates a range of driving licence-related services that include renewal, change of address, and addition of vehicle categories, across States with a single visit to the RTA. Thus far, applicants from other States were required to make at least two visits to the RTA offices for data entry and service processing. By centralising these operations, the portal aims to eliminate unnecessary visits and delays, thereby streamlining the process for citizens.
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar had formally launched the Sarathi application at the Thirumalagiri RTA office on April 30. This follows the State government’s decision to implement Sarathi and Vahan, which were developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), in line with several other states.
“While the North Zone has been integrated, other zones within Hyderabad will be brought under the Sarathi platform in another month. All RTA offices across Telangana will be integrated a month after that. We are going in a phased manner,” a senior RTA official told The Hindu.
According to data from the Sarathi dashboard, between May 1 and May 14, the North Zone RTA processed 503 learner’s licence applications and received 59 applications for permanent driving licences. During the same period, 345 driving tests were conducted, and 329 learner’s licences were issued. Additionally, the RTA generated ₹2.97 lakh in online revenue.
