Bengaluru: Corporate hospital chain Narayana Health has executed three heart transplants in one hospital within 12 hours at its flagship Narayana Health City, Bengaluru.

As per the hospital, all three recipients were men of mid-30s, who had reached a critical stage where rising lung pressure could soon make them ineligible for transplantation, the release stated.

The transplant surgeries were successful as all three patients have responded positively to the transplants and currently are recovering under close monitoring, it added.

For the transplant, donor hearts were retrieved from three different hospitals through green corridors and the process was supported by Jeevan Sarthakathe (SOTTO – State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation).

“This milestone underscores not only the medical excellence of our transplant team but also the critical role of public support, timely coordination, and these three transplants within 12 hours reaffirm the importance of organ donation in saving lives,” said Dr Varun Shetty, Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Narayana Health.

Narayana runs the country’s one of the largest Health’s heart failure and transplant programs, which offers comprehensive care in advanced heart failure, ECMO, and ventricular assist technologies.
