Three young men were killed and six others sustained injuries when the car in which they were travelling overturned after one of it wheels came off, near Vadarevu beach in Chirala mandal in Bapatla district on Monday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Karthik, 23, Nayak, 20, and Ajay, 22, all hailing from Guntur. According to Chirala DSP M.D. Moin, a group of friends had visited Vadarevu beach earlier in the day and began their return journey to Guntur by 5 p.m. However, they decided to head back to Vadarevu to collect dry fish when the accident occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a critical mechanical failure led to the crash — one of the tyres of their vehicle reportedly detached, causing the vehicle to overturn. A second tyre also came off during the accident.
There were nine occupants in the vehicle. Two of the occupants died on the spot, while the third succumbed while being shifted to the Chirala Government Hospital.
The injured have been identified as Pasala Devadatha, Kastala Samuel, Kodamala Hosanna, Pasupuleti Vishnu Sasanth, Vattikuti Tanush Venkata Naga Sai and Achutha Pranesh. All the injured are undergoing treatment, and their condition is being monitored closely.
Chirala Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
