Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton predictions

Tottenham have done it. Seventeen years of hurt finally came to an end in Bilbao on Wednesday night, as Spurs lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy with a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

The victory not only ended the club’s long-running trophy drought, but also vindicated under-pressure manager Ange Postecoglou, who has – on the odd occasion – mentioned that he always wins something in his second season. He’ll no doubt be entertaining to interview post-match on Sunday.

While Postecoglou enjoys the spotlight of his European triumph, Spurs’ woeful league form cannot be ignored. Whether the cup win will be enough to secure the Australian’s future at the club remains to be seen. If the decision is based solely on league performance, the outcome seems obvious.

In recent form, Spurs have lost eight of their last eleven Premier League matches. This includes their last two, with the most recent, a 2-0 defeat at Villa Park.

Brighton, in contrast, have shown real resilience in recent weeks. Their 3-2 win over Liverpool on Monday night, sealed by a late goal from substitute Jack Hinshelwood, demonstrated their fighting spirit.

Currently sitting eighth, the Seagulls are still in the mix for European qualification, though it remains a long shot and is dependent on other results.

Regardless of European qualification, Fabian Hürzeler’s first season at the helm has been a resounding success, with Brighton collecting 58 points from 37 matches.

They come into Sunday’s clash unbeaten in four league games, with three wins and a draw. Their last defeat was away to Brentford on Matchday 33.

Spurs vs Brighton betting tips

Tottenham have endured a dismal Premier League campaign, currently sitting fourth from bottom with just 38 points from 37 matches.

Regardless of how it may appear from the outside, there will be a strong desire within the club to avoid finishing just one spot above the relegation zone.

They’ll view Sunday’s home clash with Brighton as a winnable fixture – especially with reports of training ground unrest surfacing from the Seagulls, which could leave them vulnerable.

That said, Tottenham’s league form simply can’t be ignored. Given how unreliable the Lilywhites have been, we’re covering the draw in the double chance market for added security.

Kaoru Mitoma to score anytime

If Brighton are to leave north London with any points, the chances are they will need a contribution from their in-form winger Kaoru Mitoma.

The 28-year-old has ten goals and three assists for the Seagulls in the Premier League this season. Furthermore, three of his goals have come in his last four games.

Mitoma is 5/6 to score or assist. But with his last assist coming in January, we are happy to back him in the anytime goalscorer market at the better odds of 15/8.

Brennan Johnson to score or assist

Like his team, Brennan Johnson has had a mixed season, with most of his goal contributions coming in the first half of the campaign.

In recent weeks, the Welsh international has had fewer standout moments – though he did score twice and register an assist in the 3-1 win over Southampton, and added another assist in the 4-2 defeat to Wolves.

Regardless of who got the final touch on Wednesday night, Johnson has been officially credited with the winning goal in the Europa League final. That moment is sure to give him a confidence boost heading into the season finale.

While he hasn’t always had the full backing of the fans, that goal will have changed things. With the pressure eased, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him involved in a goal again on Sunday.

Johnson is priced at 14/5 to score anytime, but given his recent assists, it’s probably worth covering both options.
