The Twilight Saga fans are soon going to see the love story of Bella, Edward, and Jacob again on the big screen.
Lionsgate stated on Wednesday that its entire five-picture franchise of vampire films will be coming back to theatres this October, providing the public with an opportunity to re-watch the mystical romance that defined a generation.
The studio released a teaser on social media in a graphic which included Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner together with the tagline “Forever Begins Again.” Although release dates have yet to be confirmed, Lionsgate suggested that more information is forthcoming, leaving fans abuzz with excitement.
From Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling books, the saga depicted Bella Swan’s love affair with vampire Edward Cullen and her intense connection with werewolf Jacob Black. The movies caught the fervor of first love, heartbreak, and paranormal soap opera and inspired one of the most massive fan riots of the 2000s.
The five-film franchise includes Twilight (2008), New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011), and Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). What started out as a low-budget retelling became an international phenomenon. The first installment alone made $408.4 million globally, and the series collected over $3.3 billion at the box office.
The supporting cast, such as Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Jackson Rathbone, and Anna Kendrick, were instant fan favorites. Stewart, Pattinson, and Lautner rose to international fame, solidifying their spots in pop culture history.
Even over a decade on, Twilight is still a cultural phenomenon. From viral memes to year-on-year rewatches, the series has kept fans engaged. The first film’s director Catherine Hardwicke explained its longevity in an interview marking its 15th anniversary in 2023. She attributed the success of the movie to capturing the sensation of first love, calling it “a head rush that makes you feel ecstatic… a love that’s like a drug.
The return of the franchise to the theaters will evoke a sense of nostalgia among older fans, as well as bring a new generation to the love triangle that divided Team Edward and Team Jacob. In addition to the on-screen return, a TV animated reboot of Twilight is also in the works, further showing that the legacy of the saga continues to grow.
For the fans, October can’t arrive soon enough, because this time, forever really does start anew.
