Two inmates of the Government Observation Home at Kakkanad reportedly escaped after allegedly attacking the employees on Monday around 7 p.m.
The 16-year-olds were accused of theft. In their attempt to stop them, one of the employees got shoved and fell, while another employee managed to catch hold of one of the accused. However, the other inmate allegedly seized a knife from the kitchen and freed the co-accused by flashing it.
According to sources, they broke open the back door on the first floor and fled by jumping onto the sunshade. Reportedly, they also smashed the CCTV monitor at the home. The two were often involved in two-wheeler theft cases and are from Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta districts, sources said.
The police have launched a probe.
