Ford is getting ready for a historic shakeup, telling employees that it will move its headquarters from the legendary Glass House to a new top-of-the-line complex in Dearborn.

The automaker made it official on Sept. 15, 2025, announcing that its new headquarters will be known as the Henry Ford II World Center, a part of what it calls an “upgraded and reimagined Dearborn product development campus.”

The new Ford headquarters

Construction of the new campus is already in full progress, with most of the facility scheduled to be completed later this year. The formal opening will occur in November 2025, though Ford indicated that some activity will persist through 2027 on the last portion of the project.

Once it opens, the new headquarters will greet employees who will be able to work, collaborate, or take a tour of the building. Ford reports the facility will come to house a maximum of 4,000 employees, with some 14,000 workers within a 15-minute walk of the new center.

The Henry Ford II World Center will be twice the size of the existing Glass House, and built to accommodate double the number of workers. As Ford describes, the design is meant to bring its engineering, design, and technology groups together to collaborate, and speed their ability to innovate and address problems in a highly changing auto business.

The firm also disclosed that the new headquarters will be open to public tours, so visitors may see firsthand the new campus.

The destiny of the Glass House

As Ford gazes into the future, it is also ready to bid farewell to its long-time headquarters. Dubbed the Glass House, the structure has been the center of Ford’s international business for nearly 70 years. Still, the automaker reports the complex no longer meets the needs of a technology- and software-focused business.

In a statement, Ford said, “The future of our industry requires a different type of space — one that is more connected, more flexible, and built for the speed of a technology- and software company.”

When staff move onto the new campus, the Glass House will be decommissioned and then demolished within an 18-month timeframe. Ford has assured that the land will not lie empty but be reused to the advantage of its teams and the wider community.

The firm is in the process of collaborating with the city of Dearborn to identify the most appropriate use for the land, but not enough details have been released. Ford has indicated that it would offer news about its redevelopment activities soon.

This relocation of the headquarters ranks as one of the most important changes in Ford corporate history. The Glass House served as a symbol of operations for many decades, but Ford maintains that its new world center will more accurately represent its evolution as a future-focused, innovation-oriented leader in the automotive and technology sectors.
