Dermot Mulroney has officially filed for divorce from wife Prima Apollinaare after 15 years of marriage, and he’s not leaving quietly.

The 61-year-old actor, known for roles in Chicago Fire and My Best Friend’s Wedding, filed the petition on June 21, citing irreconcilable differences. The date of separation is still “TBD,” according to court docs, but one thing is clear: this divorce could get complicated.

Dermot Mulroney, who appears to be repping himself legally, isn’t just asking for joint physical and legal custody of their two daughters in the divorce – Mabel Ray, 17, and Sally June, 15, but he also wants the court to terminate Prima Apollinaare’s right to receive spousal support while keeping the door open for her to potentially pay him. That’s right, he wants to cut off her alimony but keep his own spousal support option alive.

The actor began dating Apollinaire back in 2008, a year after finalizing his divorce from actress Catherine Keener. That same year, they welcomed their first daughter, and the second soon followed before they tied the knot in December 2010. The couple bonded deeply over music, Mulroney is a professional cellist with credits in major films like Planet of the Apes and even the Mission: Impossible franchise, while Apollinaare, a singer-songwriter originally from Italy, has been immersed in music since childhood. “My mom is a singer. My dad played trumpet and piano,” she shared in a 2023 interview with music label Lost In The Manor.

Prima Apollinaire, who changed her name from Tharita Cutulle in 2015 for reasons never publicly disclosed, has collaborated with Mulroney on multiple projects. In 2010, she was listed as one of his producing partners on a biopic he planned to direct. But not everything they shared artistically clicked, Mulroney once told the New York Post that Apollinaire wasn’t exactly thrilled by his darker roles. “She can’t even look at half of the posters,” he said, referencing his horror film Scream IV.

Now, their creative harmony has turned into a courtroom battle with financial strings attached. Mulroney’s filing includes a request to split legal fees evenly while keeping the support issue in flux. Given the actor’s move to represent himself and the pointed request regarding spousal support, this case may be more than just a quiet Hollywood separation. It reflects deeper financial and emotional negotiations between the longtime couple.

While neither Dermot Mulroney nor Prima Apollinaare has commented publicly, the divorce filing paints a clear picture of a marriage that, after over a decade and two kids, has hit a point of no return. Whether things stay amicable or turn messy remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: this Hollywood split is just getting started.
