Work on the first phase of forming a new road from the newly constructed Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur to Karur Bypass in Tiruchi has begun.
Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru inaugurated the work. Collector M. Pradeep Kumar, Mayor M. Anbazhagan and Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan were present.
The 9.8-km-long road will extend from the right bank of the Koraiyar near the terminus to the right bank of the Kudamurutti near the police check post on the Tiruchi-Karur National Highway. The project is divided into three phases. The first phase of the project will cover a 2-km distance along the Koraiyar from Panjapur to Karumandapam. The two-lane road will have a width of 10 metres. An elevated road will be formed over the railway track with an overbridge. The elevated road will be 1.37-metre long. A separate road will be formed for 200 metres to connect the Rettamalai Temple. Construction of a retaining wall for 2.250 km is among the components of the Phase I project.
The project will have elevated stretches with approach roads at key intersections on the Tiruchi-Dindigul National Highway, Vayalur Road, and near the Kuzhumayee Amman Temple. The first phase of the project will be completed within 18 months, sources said.
