Fans of Yellowstone have been eagerly awaiting more details about the highly anticipated spinoff centered on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.

While speculation had many assuming the show would begin filming in Montana, new reports confirm that production is happening in Texas – with the possibility of future shoots still taking place in Montana.

According to The Dallas Express, filming for what was initially reported as a show titled Rio Palo has been spotted in and around Ferris, Texas this summer. The outlet described the location as serving as the primary residence for the show’s main characters. However, an MTV Entertainment representative later clarified that Rio Palo is not the title of a new Yellowstone spinoff. Instead, the production underway in Ferris is in fact the Beth and Rip spinoff series.

This clarification comes after months of speculation about where the couple’s story would pick up. The last time viewers saw Beth, Rip, and Carter (played by Finn Little), the three were settling into a new ranch in Montana, roughly 40 miles outside Dillon. That storyline suggested the spinoff might film primarily in Big Sky Country, just as Yellowstone has for its five seasons.

Still, filming in Texas does not rule out Montana entirely. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe has always split production across multiple states. The 1883 and 1923 prequels both filmed scenes in Montana and Texas. More recently, Sheridan’s Paramount series Landman began shooting its second season at the filmmaker’s new production facility in Fort Worth, Texas. This massive hub, which can host up to four shows at once, is expected to serve as a central base for Sheridan’s projects moving forward. Since Ferris is only about an hour from Fort Worth, the Beth and Rip spinoff may be using both locations for filming.

As of now, the spinoff still does not have an official title. The project was once referred to as Dutton Ranch, but Hauser has since confirmed that is not the final name. With production now underway, fans are hopeful more updates will arrive soon.

The Yellowstone universe remains busy beyond Beth and Rip’s storyline. The Michelle Pfeiffer-led spinoff The Madison has reportedly wrapped filming, while long-discussed projects like 6666 and 1944 are still waiting for official updates. The Kayce-centered series Y: Marshals has already been announced for a 2026 debut on CBS.

For now, Yellowstone fans can rest easy knowing that Beth and Rip’s story is moving forward – even if Texas, not Montana, is where cameras are rolling first.
