A 28-year-old Muslim man was brutally assaulted for allegedly marrying a Hindu woman, with the attackers allegedly attempting to kill him. The incident took place around 8.45 p.m. at a ground in CM Nagar, Pilathara, in Kannur on Saturday.

The Pariyaram police have registered a case under Sections 126(2), 118(2), 109(1), 3(5) against two accused. One of the accused, Rinoy Felix, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) former Madayi constituency president, has been arrested, while Daveed, the other accused, is absconding.

According to the police, the two accused, angered by the interfaith marriage, confronted the victim, N. Noufal, and attacked him brutally.

Noufal, a native of Thevalakkara in Karunagapally, Kollam, has been residing in Pilathara for over five years.

According to the police, the attackers intercepted Noufal, assaulted him with a cricket bat on the knee and hit his face with a stone after he collapsed.

Noufal, who sustained serious injuries, including facial trauma and several stitches, is in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at the Kannur Government Medical College Hospital.
